Becky Recommends - More Tools for the Journey
New to The Journey?
Here's what I recommend to clients who are just beginning to embark on the Spiritual Journey. They are some of the resources that gave direction, comfort, and encouragement to me as I struggled to figure out "who am I" and "why am I here"?
She is one of the original "gurus" of A Course in Miracles. I highly recommend any of her talks! They were originally on cassette tape. They may be on CDs now.. (see below)
Illuminata: A Return to Prayer - this book literally saved my life! I read it and journaled with it and lived with it morning and evening for about a 3 month period as I went through one of those "dark nights of the soul" phases of my life.
Woman's Worth and
A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course In Miracles These are excellent books as well.
Letting Go and Becoming
4-CD set audiobook based on the lectures she has given around the country. There are several other CD collections as well: Handling Fear, Power to Change, Romantic Relationships and others.
10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace a quick read but filled with basic principles for changing your outlook on life.
There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem - You are in control of your experiences. He gives the word "problem" a whole new meaning, continually going back to the Francis of Assisi's prayer, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace."
The Power of A Single Thought: How to Initiate Major Life Changes from the Quiet of Your Mind
- This book is a new interpretation of the James Allen classic, "As a Man Thinketh" by Gay Hendricks and Debbie DeVoe. It's easy to understand and has some great exercises to practice the concepts presented in each chapter. A definite "must have."
I listened to this CD set continuously during a major life transition (divorce). It helped me keep my sanity and helped to keep me moving forward as I packed up.... and then unpacked in my new home.
This is another CD series that I "lived by" during that same move. I kept it in my car to listen while driving.
Esther and Jerry Hicks - Abraham-Hicks
Anything by Abraham-Hicks is highly recommended! Here are a couple of my favorites:
Meditation Book Recommendations
Here are a few great sources that give quick ways to meditate. They're especially good if you're new to the whole idea of meditation. There are many different ways to meditate. Experienced meditators may find suggestions and tips for a new way of doing it, or at least interesting ideas for quick, during the day "refreshers" or "time-outs!"
101 Ways to Meditate - I've misplaced my copy of this - it may not be the exact title, can't find it at Amazon. (will get back to you!)
8 Minute Meditation: Quiet Your Mind. Change Your Life.
Five Good Minutes: 100 Morning Practices To Help You Stay Calm & Focused All Day Long
Prayer Without Ceasing ... Breath Prayers
Other Good Stuff
Every Word Has Power: Switch on Your Language and Turn on Your Life
This is an excellent book with practical exercises for changing your self-talk. Everything we say or think affects the way we feel about ourselves. In order to change our lives, we must upgrade the things we say to ourselves and about ourselves.
Why Do I Think I Am Nothing Without a Man - When I first got this book in the mid-80's it may as well have been written in Greek. I did not "get" it at all. And I don't think I read past the first few pages. But when I picked it up again years later and read the whole thing, it was an "oh my gosh" experience! And I realized that if I had been able to read through this book and work on my "stuff" when I first found the book, I could have saved myself a lot of time and heart-ache. I highly recommend this book to every woman! (Even if you don't think "you're nothing without a man.") And if you get the book and it sounds like "Greek" to you... CALL ME and let's talk!!
Beyond Positive Thinking: A No-Nonsense Formula for Getting the Results You Want
Clear, consise explanation of the Law of Attraction, the "why's" behind our thoughts and beliefs, and how to change the ones that limit you and keep you stuck.
The Genie Within: Your Subconcious Mind--How It Works and How To Use It
Fascinating subject! Mr. Carpenter writes in a very easy going, easy to read style. To me, understanding how our mind works helps alleviate the "guilt" about feeling stuck or not being able to move forward. Just like understanding gravity - If you're throwing a ball up in the air and get frustrated that it keeps hitting you in the head, once you "understand" that gravity is causing the ball to fall to the ground, it doesn't matter how high you throw it, you can choose to "work" with it and step out of the way or quit throwing it up in the air. A gross simplification, but the book gives practical exercises to help you understand the principles and apply them to your life. Highly recommended.
